Our ecological commitments
At Tayrona Yoga, an investment in your yoga practice becomes an investment in nature, in humans and in the planet.
As Gandhi said
"To change the world, we must start by changing ourselves."
Thus, for each order placed, a tree is planted and for each order prepared, a person with a disability finds or retains their place in the professional world.
1. Give back to nature what it offers us that is most precious
Behind each of your orders, there is a tree planted on site, and one more step towards the preservation of this first people.
Tayrona Yoga is not a name chosen at random. The sounds and evocations of elsewhere that emerge from it come straight from Colombia. There, on the highlands of the Sierra Nevada live the Kogis Indians, the last heirs of one of the greatest pre-Columbian societies: the Tayronas.
Whether it is founding principles for the Kogi people or a philosophy of life for yogis, we share the same values: balance, solidarity, listening and harmony . Foundations and a community way of life for the Kogis whose perpetuation is based on the preservation of their ancestral territories.
This is why we support the association “Tchendukua - Here and Elsewhere” , which has been committed to safeguarding the biodiversity of Kogi lands since 1997.
The trees planted thanks to your orders are called Guaimaro (Mayan Nut in French). The seeds they contain are full of protein, fiber, zinc, potassium, folic acid, calcium, iron and vitamins A, B, C and E. Their nutritional properties can be compared to soy and quinoa.
The advantage of these plants is that they alone produce about 180 kg of nuts each year . This allows the Kogis to survive. In addition, this tree fixes carbon very well thanks to its seeds and requires no maintenance when planted. It is a very good solution for redensifying degraded soils in tropical forests due to agriculture.

2. Become a reference in eco-responsible yoga.
When we created Tayrona Yoga in 2013, our aim was to create an e-commerce site offering a selection of eco-responsible products that respect the planet and the environment. At that time, we were pioneers on the subject and products that met this essential concern were rare. Today, it is clear that all brands have become aware of this global issue and this strengthens our commitment. The idea today is to face together the major problems of today's society: climate change. And to become the reference for eco-responsible yoga and thus give meaning to your practice and your consumption.
3. A selection of the best eco-responsible brands and products
Today, our determination remains unchanged and our goal is to encourage the sale of sustainable products that respect the environment, people and animals.
This allows us to offer you new brands and products that meet our values. Our selection criteria are based on internationally recognized environmental standards and norms. The best-known certification of which is Oeko Tex Standard 100, but which is not the most demanding in terms of the environment. We also give pride of place to organic and GOTS-certified products, the highest certification in terms of production.
The criteria used for our product selection are based on sustainability, environmental concerns of production, design, materials, product recycling and social criteria. They are also based on animal welfare.
There are many certifications and I encourage you to read our article on the subject.
4. Promote local production and small creators
Offering you the choice of responsible consumption begins with the selection of ethical brands that are just as environmentally conscious as we are . But Tayrona's commitment also means promoting French production with brands such as Yoga Feel Green, Libre comme l'Air, EQ love, Yuj… And because the world of yoga is booming, we always keep a close eye on the latest brands born from French creation . As we make discoveries and with a view to promoting local know-how, we are developing collaborations with some of these young yogi-creators such as French California and Naoussa Collection.
“Isn’t it wonderful that we don’t have to wait a single moment to make the world a better place?” - Anne Frank
5. The lion's share of European brands
Even if American brands remain "the reference" and are essential in terms of technical yoga, we also favor European brands, yoga mats, products made in Europe rather than in China or Taiwan.
This is the case of B Yoga mats made of recycled rubber made in Spain, or the German brand Kurma which produces all of its products in Europe, whether it is its yoga mats or its meditation cushions. All of these products are recyclable.
These very concrete commitments are a very real step forward, but we do not want to stop there. We will continue to look for new solutions to be as environmentally friendly as possible , and we will keep you informed of the progress made in this regard on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
