Mantra...Is this your first time hearing this?

If you are a yoga enthusiast, you already know what it is. But for those in the know, the term refers to a formula, word or sound that is repeated several times and has a therapeutic effect on the body and mind.

In yoga, mantra is at the heart of the practice as an aid to healing by improving the circulation of vital energy and allowing us to let go. As we are all unique, the same mantra will not have the same effects from one person to another. You probably think that choosing your mantra is a path strewn with pitfalls, just like me at the beginning? Think again, in reality, it is very simple.

What exactly are mantras?

From the Sanskrit ''man'' which means to think and ''trâna'' meaning protection, this pretty word means mental formula which protects.

As I told you in the introduction, mantras are one or more words or even a sound repeated so that virtues are felt on the body, mind or spirit thanks to the vibrations and resonance they emit. They can be recited out loud or inwardly.

You may have already seen this in some religions, including Buddhism or Hinduism, which use this tool very regularly, especially to influence the gods during prayer. Far from Tibetan mantras , it is a means used in yoga to more easily diffuse the vital energy Prana throughout the body and thus benefit from the benefits of sound. Sound yoga, this is the nickname of this practice.

What is the use of mantras?

In religion, the recitation of mantras is used to channel negative thoughts, during meditation, and therefore, as you will have understood, to calm the mind to be in the present moment.

But, here, as we are in a yoga blog, they aim to let go in order to relax and strengthen the benefits of the practice, especially therapeutic ones. Other techniques include Pranayama: breathing exercises .

I'm sure you know a mantra! The most powerful mantras being, in Sanskrit, OM or AUM. But, you are free to let your creativity speak and invent as you wish.

Very well, but how do you find your mantra ?

Even if it goes against religions, creating a mantra is very easy, believe me, if you listen to your body. Know that there are no rules or codes. This formula must resemble you, that is to say, it must make sense to you and in particular echo your past or present life experience. This mantra will help you evolve while allowing you to have awareness and questioning. You must feel it in you in a deep way by experiencing it daily. I chose my first mantras like this and I can tell you that it helped me a lot.

My tip: Reciting mantras is easier when you use a mala. In the Tayronalife yoga online shop you will find a wide selection of mala.
