Portrait of Magalie de Yogalie, yoga teacher
Who is Magalie?
Originally from the southwest, I have lived in Annecy for two years and have been a yoga teacher since the beginning of the year, I was trained by Sharleen @yogavahine yoga teacher in Annecy and I then continued to train in the practice of teaching in Bali with the @zazyoga school. I was literally seduced by these two teachings which have in common the respect of the body and its alignments. We are all different and yoga must take this into account.
I have been practicing yoga for almost three years now and for me it is my
daily therapy, that of the body and the mind...
At the same time, I am currently studying to become a Naturopathy practitioner in order to one day combine these two major fields. Ultimately, my ideal would be to be able to offer a range of solutions dedicated to supporting the well-being of the physical and spiritual body via yoga, nutrition, reflexology, massage, etc.
I am delighted to partner today with @Tayronayoga to offer you this online content that will hopefully help you feel more comfortable in your yoga practice.
See you soon on your mats. Namaste."
How did you get into taking care of yourself?
About two years ago, I was living on autopilot, both professionally and personally. I had a realization when I moved to Annecy and lived alone for the first time in about fifteen years. Suddenly, you change everything in your life and you find yourself alone with yourself and the question: "Do you love yourself?" hits you in the face. This time, I couldn't get around it anymore... Taking care of myself went through a stage of profound life changes and personal trials, but deep down this path was necessary. I could no longer put my desires aside and not listen to this inner voice that told me that I was no longer on the right path.
What practice for your well-being?
Being regular in my yoga practice and of course walks along the lake by bike or on foot and hiking for contact with nature which is so beautiful where I live.
What is the ritual of your practice?
Do breathing or relaxation exercises regularly, do yoga almost every day, read and reread The Power of Now which is the bible on my bedside table and also read lots of things about the philosophy of yoga.
What do you get out of it?
More kindness towards myself and towards others. More serenity also in my daily life. I act much more consciously with myself and those around me. Ultimately, it is putting into practice Ahimsa, non-violence and Santosha contentment which are part of the eight pillars of the philosophy of yoga.
What do you carry in your yoga bag?
The bare minimum is my mat and water!
What is your favorite object/accessory?
My necklace brought back from Bali with an amethyst symbolizing mental clarity (and my phone ahahah)
What would be your advice for Tayrona Yoginis?
Make several stops during the day to capture the present moment. A few minutes, just focus on yourself, on your breathing and on your emotions. Practice an activity that allows you to suspend the fluctuation of the mind and its flow of thoughts. This is part of vital hygiene!
Where/how do you practice?
I practice yoga at home and also with Sharleen @yogavahine in a room in Veyrier du Lac and with Nadia @annecyogagirl who gives classes in the center of Annecy.
During this period of confinement, I take the opportunity to teach yoga to my friends, it is so enriching and stimulating to share the spirit of yoga.
I like to practice with respect for the body and its alignments, these are the basis of the yoga teacher trainings that I have followed and I completely adhere to this ethic. I believe in the therapeutic power of yoga on both the body and the mind.
What is your mantra/favourite phrase?
Let go of what was
And have faith in what will be.”
