Portrait of a Yogi in Love with Life: Katy Misson
Let me introduce you to Katy Misson, my yoga teacher. Katy is a posturologist physiotherapist, specializing in neurophysiology.
I met her through a good friend in Hossegor during one of her retreats which offered surfing and yoga.
Katy is a beautiful person who exudes a real communicative energy. She loves life, people, meetings and yoga which she teaches with passion. Her know-how in neuro-physiology and biomechanics has allowed her to develop a unique style of yoga combining her therapeutic knowledge with her yoga practice. She teaches you a yoga that guides you in the alignment of your body, your mind and your heart; Satiam Yoga. Katy's mission is to help each individual become aware of their infinite capacities and develop their potential. And, it is thanks to her teaching and her impulse that today my dream and the Tayrona site are developing facing Lake Annecy.
It was only natural that I asked him a few personal questions about his yoga practice, which I am sharing with you today.
How did you get into taking care of yourself?
A few years ago, I realized that we only have one life and that every moment of life is a miracle. I am fundamentally a "lover of life". I am fully aware of how lucky I am to be alive and therefore that I must take care of it.
I started yoga thanks to a friend from Vancouver (Canada). I dared, I went there and it was a real revelation. And that's how I gave up on opening my physiotherapy practice and asked my Anusara teacher to train me. I remember telling her: "I'm staying until I'm trained". After two years, I returned to Annecy.
What practice for your well-being?
Today, yoga is my whole life and I created my own teaching " Satiam Yoga ", a method from Anusara, which advocates a return to the essence that I teach with great humility and energy to my students. This teaching combines postural alignment, opening of the heart and mind.
Otherwise, nothing special; joy, good humor, more seriously meditation and the use of my senses are essential to my well-being.
What is the ritual of your practice?
I hate rituals. In the morning before I open my eyes, I realize that I am alive, that I am lucky to be alive. I wake up in silence and I ask myself what I can do or what action I can take to be the best person. So, I often pretend to still be asleep to stay in this present moment, facing myself or I reconnect with my inner being.
What do you get out of it?
Unconditional love and love for my neighbor. A whole.
What do you carry in your yoga bag?
Nothing and everything.
My students and friends often smile because I have several bags. I often take way too many things. Things that are useless. In general, I don't even know what I put in them. Otherwise for my practice, I don't use a Yoga mat. I like contact with the earth. On the other hand, in my studio, I have Tayrona yoga mats and 3 Yuj mats.
What is your favorite object/accessory?
My feathers, I'm addicted to my feathers. I wear them as earrings or hung in my hair.
What would be your advice for Tayrona Yoginis?
“Open your heart”, for this listen to yourself, listen to your inner child, do not force and stay simple. And believe in yourself and your potential.
Where/how do you practice?
I travel a lot for my retreats, my teacher trainings and my workshops. I practice everywhere, as soon as I can, and of course in my academy "Satiam Yoga" in Annecy.
What is your mantra/favourite phrase?
Find Katy on the website of her yoga academy Satiam Academy!
